Well-known scifi author Arthur C. Clarke once said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." I bring this up after seeing an ad for a new allergy medicine called Veramyst. Barely visible in tiny text on the screen--readable after a few repeated Tivo viewings--is the following text:
"The way VERAMYST works is not entirely understood."
Really? "Not entirely"? Does that make you a bit nervous? Are we talking eye of newt and such? Perhaps it's time to turn to herbal remedies...
EDIT: After spending decades as a loyal member of the Spelling Police (and, yes, I will point out spelling errors on restaurant menus), I discovered--after 'rjb' commented on my post--that I had grossly misspelled 'indistinguishable'. Shame on me...
I saw this same ad. That fine print caught my eye and I had to rewind the Tivo to make sure I saw what I thought I did. The disclaimers in pharmaceutical ads are always good for a laugh, but this is one of the best I've seen. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed!

That's hilarious!
You mean it didn't come with a warning that use of the product might cause anal leakage?
BTW, Adam...very nice blog.

Very soon after I moved to NYC, I was told that the quality of a Chinese restaurant's food was proportional to the number of typos on its menu.
That rule worked for a long, long time. Now, sadly, amidst the general Decline Of Moral Standard, it is no longer the case.
And I've given up pointing out spelling errors. It tends to produce either a blank stare ("spelling? what's that?") or a repetition of the name of the dish ("that's SPRING ROLLS!"). Sigh.
Waiter? Another vodka stinger!
